"A challenging Makalu Trekkng which is the world’s fifth highest mountain including crossing of Shipton La. Along the trail there are superb views of the south face of Makalu as well as Everest, Lhotse, Chamlang and Kanchenjunga. Makalu Barun National Park was established in 1992 as Nepal’s eighth national park covering 2,330 sq km. This area is a remote wilderness containing some of the last remaining areas of pristine forests and alpine meadows in Nepal. "

 

Makalu Base camp Trek is a rigorous trek to the foot of Mt. Makalu, the world’s fifth highest peak, from where the views of Makalu, Everest and other mountains are regal and fantastic. Nepal Visitors Trekking and Walking recommend this for anyone in good shape and with previous trekking experience wanting something tough. Our first pass at an altitude of 1800 metres and it is here that we have our first views of Makalu and the Jaljale Himal. Proceeding through rhododendron forests we eventually make a crossing of the Shipton La before arriving at Makalu Base Camp (5000m).

 

Makalu Base Camp Trek is considered as a technical trek and suitable for average people. If you are moderately fit and have a sense of adventure will enjoy Makalu trek. The program is designed to acclimatize you gradually and not expected high altitude sickness. However you are requested to check your altitude fitness and the itinerary. Nepal Visitors Trekking and Walking suggest you to strengthen your knee muscles and prepare for several days of steep descents. Some physical fitness programs such as running, swimming, biking or aerobics is recommended, but mostly hiking on steep hills or running up and down steps are preferable. Please note that the following program is prepared in the fact basis however can be change in some circumstances but adjustments will have to made during the trekking. We request you to be flexible with the situation to enjoy yourself. As the Makalu trek is designed for camping arrangement, everything is handled by our team of porters, sherpas and cooks who carry the equipment, assemble and dissemble the camp and have hot meals waiting for you at every food break.

NOTE: On Makalu Base Camp Trek of this type, weather, local politics, transport or a multitude of other factors beyond our control can result in a change of itinerary. It is however, very unlikely that the itinerary would be substantially altered; if alterations are necessary the leader will decide what is the best alternative, taking into consideration the best interests of the whole group. Where a change does occur, we do everything we can to minimize its effect, but we cannot be responsible for the results of changes or delays.

Recommended Trekking Kit
The following is a list of clothing and accessories that we recommend that you take with you. This is not intended to be a comprehensive clothing and equipment list, rather it is intended to act as a reminder of those items that we feel are essential for your comfort and convenience. However we recognise that you may have your own personal preferences for clothing which may be equally as suitable.

Walking boots with suitable ankle support that have been worn-in prior to the trek, and which are waterproof
